Team Bermuda and Nuff Said were left to ponder what might have been after choppy seas prevented them from racing at the XINSURANCE Great Lakes Grand Prix in Michigan City at the weekend.

The Bermuda teams had been hoping to continue their sparkling form in this year’s Super Stock National Championship and went into the event high on confidence after securing a second straight one-two finish last time out at the St Clair River Classic in Michigan.

However, things did not go ahead as planned as the adverse conditions forced cancellation of racing in the Super Stock class on Saturday and Sunday.

“Although it’s disappointing not to compete, we fully support the decision to cancel today’s event,” Team Bermuda boat owner and throttle man Steven Bridges told The Royal Gazette.

“While we were as prepared as possible for today’s race following a difficult qualifying session and yesterday’s race cancellation, the safety of our racers, officials, safety crew and everyone involved will always be the top priority.

“We extend our sincere thanks to our dedicated crew for making the journey and all of their hard work throughout the weekend. Thanks as well to our sponsors, family, friends and supporters for your continued encouragement and commitment. We appreciate your support and look forward to getting back in the boat soon.”

Nuff Said driver Luis Martins was also looking forward to racing before organisers pulled the plug on proceedings.

“They officially shut it down on us as the water was too rough and getting worse as the day went on,” Martins said.

“Yesterday we got to qualify and were ready to race but then a few accidents that happened before our race pushed on to like 5pm and as the weather was getting worse they cancelled it as well. It was really choppy and we had about three boats that flipped.”

Bridges and driver David Selley are the Super Stock National Championship leaders with three wins and two top two finishes to date.

Martins and throttle man Nick Imprescia are also holding their own in the Championship having picked up their first win together at last month’s Lake of Ozarks Shootout in Missouri and finished in the top six at every race so far this year.
