Bermuda powerboats ruled the waves in Florida on Sunday, with Nuff Said winning the season finale XInsurance Great Lakes Grand Prix and Team Bermuda finishing third to clinch a maiden Super Stock National Championship title.

Nuff Said driver Luis Martins and throttle man Nick Imprescia were simply unstoppable in the calm conditions as they led the fleet around the entire race course in their 32ft twin-engined Doug Wright catamaran to capture their second win together.

“A great feeling and over the moon with another win in our first year together,” Martins told The Royal Gazette.

“This man [Imprescia] throttled an amazing race. I had to keep up with him because he was going too fast for me and I couldn’t turn fast enough.

“The weekend was looking good for us. Got a little nasty yesterday but we pulled it back together last night and went out there today and did what we did.

“Team Bermuda came third so two Bermuda boats on the podium today is amazing.”

Multiple world champion Imprescia, who is from the US, cited teamwork as the key to success.

“Very, very excited and so grateful for our team,” he said.

“We’re just happy to provide the results that this team truly deserves. Thank you for all the support, the love and the efforts. We got it done together.

“The family that we have made together and all the support and love from back home in Bermuda and where I am from as well has been immense.

“We are very proud of results, very proud of our standing in the National Championship but even more so we’re proud that when we show up we know what we bring to the table. We do it together as one team, one family, one love.

“I was very fortunate to join a team that is amazing and we get along as we do.”

Nuff Said team owner Stephen Moniz also cited good chemistry and execution as the team’s success.

“Everybody knows what they have to do and just gets in and does what they have to do,” he said. “An excellent group of guys and could not ask for more.”

Moniz is also happy and proud to see both Bermuda teams thriving at this level.

“It feels great for Bermuda,” he said. “Out of seven races Bermuda has six so that should say something. It’s been a great weekend overall, they done well.”

Nuff Said’s other win was at the Lake of Ozarks Shootout in Missouri in June. They also finished in the top six in all but one race this year.

Team Bermuda lost a tight battle for second with rivals Chris Hopgood and Jay Muller (Ignite Offshore Racing) but still had cause for celebration after clinching the national championship.

“It feels real good,” boat owner and throttle man Bridges said.

“It kind of sucks a little bit we got third place but we got to put that behind us. The big picture was go out there and finish the race, and that’s what we needed to do for the championship.

“It’s a big effort by everybody in the whole team that supports us and it’s awesome to say that we are champions.

“This is incredible. It’s a big competition and big teams out here. A lot of these guys get paid to do what they do and we just do it as a hobby pretty much; come out here and if we can get on the podium we are happy. Now we’re actually a champion so just a dream come true.

“An awesome feeling, thanks to the team, thanks to the sponsors, everybody back home that supports us. It means a lot to us and pretty cool.”

Remarkably, Team Bermuda chalked up four victories and stood on the podium at every race on the way to the title.

“Keep it on the podium every race and that in itself is amazing and very proud of that,” driver Selley said.

“We gave it everything that we had today and super proud of the effort the whole year.”

Bridges is also proud of the success both Bermuda teams have enjoyed this season.

“That’s huge and awesome to have both teams up there representing Bermuda,” Bridges said.

Selley tipped his hat to Martins and Imprescia for their the latest victory.

“Congrats to those guys. It would’ve been sick to finish 1-2, no matter what way it went,” he said.

“But here we are. We’re both on the podium; one with the win and one with the national title. It’s awesome, a good result for everybody.”
