Three suspicious packages found

Police have appealed for help after the discovery of three packages of suspected drugs in the waters off the South Shore.

A Bermuda Police Service spokesman said the first package was found by a visitor to the island just before 1pm on Monday while snorkelling off the beach at the Reefs hotel on South Road, Southampton.

Police were called and officers impounded the suspected drugs..

A second package was found at Marley Beach, Warwick, at about 4pm on Monday by a member of the public, who handed it in to a police station.

The spokesman said police officers, with help from the Bermuda Coastguard, carried out an extensive search of the area and a third package was later picked up just off Marley Beach.

He added: “As investigations into these finds continue, the BPS is appealing to any member of the public who may have witnessed any suspicious activity in the waters off the South Shore in recent days, to please call 211 or the main police number 295-0011.”
