Special drive-by celebration planned for 107-year-old
A drive-by event will be held next week to celebrate a woman’s 107th birthday.
Louise Franks, a patient in the King Edward VII Hospital’s long term care unit, will mark the day next Monday.
Capri Smith, the unit’s activities supervisor, and her team have made an special arch for the occasion.
It is planned that Ms Franks will sit under the arch outside the acute care wing on Point Finger Road, if the weather permits.
Ms Smith said: “We wanted to make the day special for Ms Franks and she does enjoy being greeted.
“We have consulted with her family who are on board with the plan and who will stop in to see her throughout the day.”
Michael Richmond, the Bermuda Hospitals Board’s chief executive officer, added: “Ms Franks has been a resident in our long term care unit for 12 years.
“She has a very pleasant demeanour and is a familiar face to most of our staff at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital.
“We’re looking forward to celebrating this milestone age with her on Monday.”
Ms Franks will wave to wellwishers as they pass between 1pm and 2pm.
A BHB spokeswoman added: “While BHB encourages the public to wave and toot to Ms Franks as they pass on Point Finger Road on Monday, the hospital asks drivers to be mindful not to disrupt the flow of traffic by stopping or moving at an excessively slow speed.”
