Information session for older people in need

An information session will be held to help people aged 50 and over who are in need as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Age Concern will host the event at the Seventh Day Adventist Church on King Street from midday until 3pm next Monday, December 14.

A spokesman for the charity said it was “in response to the recent surge of job losses, as well as medical, financial and economic hardship due to the Covid-19 pandemic”.

He added: “Members of the public are welcome to attend and learn valuable information on the services available to those in need, aged 50 and above.”

Adults of any age can attend and no registration is needed.

Representatives from organisations that cover emergency housing, food assistance and addiction recovery and support will be at the session.

Other areas of help will include medication and patient assistance, clothing distribution and spiritual guidance.

Donna Outerbridge, an Age Concern client services associate, said: “In these difficult times, it is more important than ever that we, as a society, address the needs of our older adult population, including those of working age.

“We are proud to work with our dedicated partners and look forward to meeting with members of the public to see how we can help.”

The Salvation Army, the Bermuda Diabetes Association, substance misuse agency Focus Counselling Services and Seventh Day Adventist Community Services will be represented at the event.

Members of the Age Concern team will offer information on services available through the Coalition for the Protection of Children, Bermuda Housing Corporation, MJM Barristers and Attorneys and Financial Assistance.
