Public to avoid attending police stations when possible

Residents have been asked to use the non-emergency telephone number or an online tool to make reports to police instead of visiting police stations in person.

The Bermuda Police Service said that the move was made “in light of the recent uptick in positive Covid-19 cases”.

A spokesman added that the public was asked to “avoid visiting police stations to make reports unless absolutely necessary starting today”.

He said: “Exceptions include victims of abuse attending a police station to make a report or receive assistance and individuals on bail – who are still required to report to a police station as specified in their bail conditions.”

The spokesman said that residents were asked to call 211 or to use the community reporting portal at https://portal.police.bm.

He added that 911 should be used for emergencies only.

The spokesman asked anyone who “must make an in person report at a police station” to wear a mask, use hand sanitiser and practise physical distancing.

He added: “Let’s all work together to ensure each other’s safety and reduce the spread of Covid-19.”
