Firearm seized after violent incident in St George’s

Police confirmed today a man was arrested at the weekend after a violent incident that involved a firearm.

A police spokesman said the service was aware of a “disturbing” video circulated on social media that showed a badly injured man is being held by another man with a handgun near by.

The spokesman added the firearm and several rounds of ammunition were seized by police.

The incident happened in the early hours of Saturday morning on the outskirts of the Town of St George.

The injured man was arrested and is under treatment at the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital.

The spokesman said a second man was also arrested, but was later released after “assisting police with their inquiries into this incident”.

He added that members of the public who found themselves in a situation where there was a threat of serious violence should act within the confines of the law to protect themselves and others by immediately contacting the police on the emergency 911 number to enable an emergency response from appropriately skilled police officers.

Anyone with information that could help the inquiry should contact police on 295-0011 or 211.
