A plane was diverted to Bermuda’s airport following a medical emergency.

The Delta aircraft, flight number DL 1780, from San Juan in Puerto Rico destined for Boston, changed course on Monday evening after reports of a 62-year-old passenger suffering breathing difficulties caused by asthma.

It landed safely and passengers remained on the island after being supplied with hotel and meal vouchers.

The plane, a three-year-old Airbus, took off again today at 12.57pm but there were no reports of the passenger’s condition.

A statement from Delta read: “Delta Flight 1780 from San Juan, Puerto Rico to Boston diverted to Bermuda following an on-board medical emergency.

“The safety of our customers and crew comes before all else, and we thank our customers for their patience and understanding.”

A company spokesperson said: “The Airbus A321neo aircraft has six crew members and the flight continued to Boston today.

“Customers were provided with hotels and meal vouchers while in Bermuda.”

A report on social media site Instagram under the name the bermudaflyer said: “The aircraft landed safely on runway 30 at 5.45pm and taxied to the gate where it was met by a waiting ambulance.

“A 62-year-old passenger had breathing difficulties caused by asthma and was tended to by medical professionals on board.”
