Perched on Harrington Sound’s low and foliage-softened cliffs, Bridgenorth’s view sweeps all the way to Flatts Village and the Aquarium.

Listed by Sinclair Realty, which is affiliated with Christie’s International Real Estate, this 1950s Hamilton Parish bungalow, situated along Harrington Sound’s ‘Golden Mile’ is typical of its era, and in the Wil Onions style. While there is the potential to develop this residential two-zoned property, for those who are admirers of the genre, these homes have, in many ways, come into their own.

Bridgenorth in particular might be viewed by some as a real keeper. While most people would like to upgrade and update kitchen, bathrooms and more, the rooms themselves are nicely proportioned, warm and inviting, with proper wooden floors and windows that frame the mature grounds — lawns that are covered with thick grass, dotted with established trees and lined with hedges, greyed limestone walls and the calm waters of the Sound beyond.

Swimming and boating must be part of the pleasures of living in a home such as this one. While there isn’t a dock, there is access to the water and once in the water, the invitation to explore the nooks and crannies of the cliffs that edge Harrington Sound is irresistible. There’s also the possibility of a seasonal mooring.

Bridgenorth, which sits on three quarters of an acre, has private garden areas, from a tiled semicircular patio enclosed with a hedge just outside the living room, to a lawn dominated by a limestone barbecue overlooking the Sound.

The low-lying elevation-style aspect of the inland side of the house plays up its classic Bermudian vernacular architecture, and is dominated by a sweeping lawn. It gives it a Coplandesque impression of open space juxtaposed with a prevailing sense of privacy as it sits cosily in a verdant dell.

There are three bedrooms: the master bedroom’s bathroom with shower is en suite, while the remaining two can be closed off and are separated by a short corridor. Hanging space is generous for the mid-1900s and each bedroom has one, while the master bedroom has ‘his’ and ‘hers’ closets. There living room has a fire place and spills into a breakfast nook and the kitchen.

That kitchen is in the style of the house, but there is a Viking Stove and new counter tops. There’s mudroom entrance into that wing, and there is also a garage, which has another wonderful view, this one from a window at its northern end.

Realtor John Sinclair said: “Bridgenorth has got lovely lines — it’s a lovely piece of architecture,” and added that there is planning approval in principal for two blocks of two condominiums — so four in total. “Or it could be a boutique family compound, you could put a cottage or two on it. There’s lots of play with, with this property.”

The price is available on request. For more information, call Sinclair Realty on 296-0278 or e-mail estates@logic.bm.
