United already looking like favourites to win title

The first Premier League weekend supported a lot of what I said last week in regards to the title contenders and those who will fight it out for the remaining places in the table. The likes of Manchester United and Manchester City are both up and running with wins and look like the most likely candidates to be in the race throughout the season.United showed once again they can get the job done in the dying stages of a match and were well worth their victory and are my bet to win the title again. The young goalkeeper David de Gea has made a few mistakes and will need to have time to adjust to life at a super club, and fill the boots of Edwin Van de Sar. It takes time for players to get use to new elements of the league and it is harsh for people to be on him already.City were great in their opening game against Swansea and were good value for their money, especially new-boy Sergio Aguero who came on and turned the match around.Chelsea struggled against Stoke City, although Stoke are a very physical side and most teams will have a hard time going their and getting a result.Liverpool were pegged back by a great strike from Sebastian Larsson and Sunderland, and this was a fair result. If you want to be in the running come the end of the season you have to find a way to beat the Stoke’s and the Sunderland’s of the league.Arsenal seem to lack the imagination in the attack and I don’t know if it’s the coach and what he is doing but something needs to happen. It will be difficult for them to win the competition because they need more people in the squad.Arsene Wenger is maybe right when he questions why he should pay a lot of money for players, when he thinks he can find what he needs for a good price that does the job. However, everyone’s used to Arsenal winning things and if anyone can get them out of the slump it will be Wenger because he has the ability to get the job done.My old club West Ham are also back to winning ways in the Championship and it is good to see when the players put their heart and soul into the match that we can get the required results. This is what I expect from them because we have a lot of players with a lot of experience and the big win over Watford midweek on the road showed that we have character. Our players are used to playing at a higher level and they can’t allow themselves to play down to their opponents level, as long as we have the right frame of mind we can do big things. The Championship is all about work, you must roll up your sleeves and get down to business in order to be successful in the division, the teams that are doing well are the ones who go out and look to get into a match.I’m glad that Southampton are back and performing well, they have been down for so many years but it seems now that they have got things right and have turned to the youth to turn things around and it’s a pleasure to see.In Spain the two-legged Super Copa was thrilling to watch, and it always seems to be fireworks when Barcelona and Real Madrid play and this one was no different.Lionel Messi, as usual, was brilliant and it was great to see them play some good football but it also showed that Real Madrid know how to score against them and more than one goal as well. The season is in full swing now so it will be another exciting week of football that everyone should enjoy.
