We can get even higher in rankings

Bermuda’s jump up the FIFA rankings by 57 places to 132 in the world is great to see.I have been telling people for years that the more games you play the higher your ranking will be and if we can get games played on the dates FIFA set out for international games then we will see our ranking go up further, it’s that simple. Some might think that our current position is giving the country false hope, but we beat Trinidad, drew with Guyana and have improved a lot recently. We had to start at some time and it is good to see that we are playing well as a team, the only thing is we have to keep playing after the qualifiers because that is the only way we will get better and go further up the rankings.Barbados are up next in a double-header at the National Stadium and anyone that thinks these games don’t count is fooling themselves. We might not be able to qualify for the World Cup but every game helps the team get better and I’m sure the fans will be keen to get out and support the boys.I know the boys might have quite liked the experience of playing in Barbados and there were several people I know who were looking forward to going, but these are tough economic times and playing at home can only help our cause.* * *There’s another two days of English Premier League action this weekend and if it’s anything like last Saturday and Sunday then we’re in for a treat.Arsenal have finally woken up, they played fantastic against Chelsea and I hope that they continue to do this. If they can go to Stamford Bridge and get the points, then they still may have a real shot at making inroads into the title race.People are saying that they rely too heavily on Robin Van Persie but he is the in-form striker in the league, alongside Demba Ba, and if you look at his record so far you couldn’t blame them for not relying on him.The only thing about that is that they will need someone else step in and get amongst the goals as well.Newcastle and Alan Pardew are the surprise of the league thus far and it is a credit to him. Everywhere he has gone he has been somewhat successful and can do his job well. His reputation as a manager had fallen off slightly but now he’s at Newcastle and they are performing, and it helps when you have a striker in Demba Ba to get the crucial goals when you need them.* * *Sir Alex Ferguson is approaching the 25 year anniversary at the helm of Manchester United and it is incredible to see when you think that he has had the job for all that time.He is a legend, one of the greatest managers of all times and his record proves that and he is a testament to both the game and the club he manages. You are judged by what you win and he is certainly at the top of this list. When you talk about managers, a lot of them get sacked and so forth but he has stayed there for many years and when the times comes he will walk out on his terms. He deserves all the accolades that come his way.
