Seeking shelter from the apocalypse

If my calculations are correct, only about 200 Bermudians will live to acknowledge Christmas this year. This is because, give or take a few for possible global tardiness, the ancient Mayan civilization prediction of the Doomsday is about six months away.Predictors have all been wrong in the past…but the Mayans seemed to have been accurate on various other things, so about 200 clever people will survive. And here’s how.Bermuda is a God-made fortress against natural disasters. It has an intricate series of caves where mankind can shelter from the apocalypse. I found one just last Sunday. At Admiralty Park. Walk down the track towards the beach, when you get to the sign on the apex of the bend that describes the fish in the water, take a turn to your left. Follow it around to the water’s edge and bingo...there’s a cave capable of holding, I think, about 150 people.Go check it out. And while you are at it, the caves at Grotto Bay will shelter about 100, and there is a man-made hut that faces away from Warwick Long Bay beach too. It currently houses sandbags. It looks impenetrable. When the solar flares start making their way to earth on December 21 this year, (that’s the Mayan date with destruction), that little hole in the beach could be Nirvana.Along with the solar flares there will be tsunamis. Experts suggest these killer waves may reach 125 ft when they hit. Remember Hurricane Igor? Well the day before he hit, the waves were crashing over those landmark rocks in the water at Warwick Long Bay. And these were estimated to be 18ft...Everything that can’t swim, actually even then, everything on or near Warwick Long Bay will be drowned if 125ft waves crash on the south side. So all you seeking refuge there and it will hold about 45 comfortably will not make it. Sorry. My cave at Admiralty...hmm, it does have an open section facing the north waters, so if the tsunami hits us from that side, darn, no survivors there either. But wait a moment, what about the Crystal and Fantasy caves? Surely God put them here to shelter the chosen few from harm? Surely.I asked Ron James, one of the affable tour guides up at the caves a few pertinent questions! How many people can comfortably fit in both caves? “I think we could squeeze 300 into the Crystal Cave and about 175 into the Fantasy Cave,” he said. I immediately told him my wife, daughter and I will be there but, my seven-year-old is scared of the dark. If the solar flares destroy everything on land...presumably the lights in the cave will go too.“Don’t worry. We have an old generator,” he smiled. “It hasn’t been fired up for a few years but I think we could get it to go. I suggest people bring flash lights though, just in case...Hold on a sec. The generator may be gas driven, which means if the solar flares are hitting us…the thing could combust and blow up. That could kill a few people in the caves if that happened. Let me check that and get back to you. I don’t want to panic people unnecessarily.”OK, Ron, what about the threat of a tsunami? Water gets into the caves from the bottom...right?“Yes but it isn’t a huge hole. So if the water rises it probably will get into the Crystal Cave and rise only about as high as the platform viewing bridge…hmm, yeah, thinking about that the people on the bridge woul….hmm, it would probably kill off about 150 of the 300 people in there. Hopefully it will recede quickly.“But the good news is, if the tsunami hits, it will wash over the Island and I think all those in the Fantasy Cave would survive because it is 120ft above sea level. So it really depends on how high the tidal wave is.”Man, if only we had a crystal ball with us in the Crystal Cave!Anyway, the solar flares and tsunami could be the least of our worries if the prediction of the rogue monster planet Nibiru is accurate. It is believed to be on a collision course with Earth, or at least a disruptive flyby. A direct hit would obliterate us. Even a near miss could shower Earth with deadly asteroids, hurled our way by the planet's gravitational wake.Which may not worry us here in Bermuda. If Nibiru is real and hits us, say on the other side of the planet where…oh no, Australia is, it shouldn’t affect Bermuda.“Unless it crashes right through Earth,” said Ron.I think the best thing to do is when we reach December 20, is grab our loved ones, tell them how much we love them…then read your Bible.Go to Matthew 24:36 and see what Jesus said about the end day: "No-one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father."Don’t worry about the generator Ron…the Mayans are wrong.
