Lampard injury a big blow for England

With just one week before the start of the Euro Championships, Frank Lampard’s injury is a significant one for England and their ambitions to win the tournament. When you look at his ability to get into the box and score goals, you realise how valuable he is to the team.He has been one of the best midfield players in a long time. He has had a great career and his goals have been immense for both club and country. And you know he’s hugely disappointed that he can’t play in this month’s tournament.Holland’s Wesley Sneijder is another top player who could miss the tournament after he limped off in the country’s friendly international this week. They will certainly need him if they are to make a serious run in the competition. They have depth and can put any one of a host of players in his position but you always want your best available and he is one of those players who can win you a game by himself.Holland’s group isn’t an easy one given they have to play Portugal, Germany and Denmark and the key for all of them will be winning their first match. One win in this group could be enough to see the country advance given that there could be a few draws. The winner is hard to pick in this group, even Denmark can’t be ruled out.Meanwhile, the Italians are in a bit of trouble after the recent scandal over match-fixing has hampered their preparations. The quickly need to get their house in order. It’s a shame that match-fixing is still in the game but we have to face reality. We know it’s there and it needs to be sorted out. Those involved should never play again given the amount of money these players are making. How much money do you need to make in order to live? The Italian federation need to get to the bottom of these latest allegations. It wasn’t too long ago that Juventus were involved in something like this.* * * *Manchester United and Chelsea are already in the transfer market and are looking to get their business done before the Euros start, which is a good thing.United got Shinji Kagawa from Borussia Dortmund and Edin Hazard will be going to Chelsea. These are two of the better teams in the Europe. Everyone wants to play for United and in my own opinion Hazard went to Chelsea for the money because you know United were more than interested.Brendan Rodgers is the new boss at Liverpool, having left Swansea City, and he will have his work cut out to turn the club’s fortunes around. They will need to give him time because the fans and board are so demanding. The history of the club puts more pressure on him.Liverpool are used to winning trophies and he will need to get off on the right foot but his appointment gives another British manager the chance to coach a big club. With all the foreign coaches coming in and getting the top jobs, it’s nice to see Rodgers given this opportunity.
