Fairmont throws a Super Bowl bash

The Fairmont Hamilton Princess is hosting a Super Bowl bash on Sunday. The festivities begin at 3pm and the pre-game and game will air on their 7.5 x 10ft screen. Admission is free and you can expect happy hour prices and deals on beer and Breezer buckets. There will be free hors d'oeuvres from 6pm to 7pm and every time a touchdown is scored, drink prices will be dropped. They also promise face-painting and more surprises and specials. l If you're more of a film buff than a sports fan, the Bermuda International Film Festival will screen ‘Silver Linings Playbook’ at Liberty Theatre on Sunday night only. The film stars Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Lawrence and Robert DeNiro and has been nominated for eight Oscars. Tickets are $25 and available from www.pTix.bm. Proceeds will benefit BIFF’s programming initiatives.

l Yes, January is almost over but you can still give your New Year's resolution to live a healthier life a little boost! Café Ten offers a presentation on nutrition and exercise on Tuesday by Don Pedan, a performance coach at the Olympic Club. The cost is $35 per person and includes "lite" tapas prepared by Chef Mike, a low-fat cocktail, a glass of low-calorie wine and door prizes, compliments of the Olympic Club. l Members of the Broad Arrow Lodge are hosting a charity quiz night at the Docksider Pub on Saturday, February 9 with prizes, raffles and an auction. The event is a fundraiser to establish an education trust to benefit Katherine Wheddon, daughter of the late Major Christian Wheddon. Dinner and drinks will be from 7pm with a three-course meal offered for $25. The trust fund will receive $5 from every meal and $1 from every drink purchased. Quiz master Mike Bishop will start at 8pm. Admission costs $50 for a team of 5. l The Bermuda Musical & Dramatic Society latest production, ‘Bouncers’, runs from Thursday, February 14 until Saturday, February 16, and then from Thursday, February 21 until Saturday, February 23. This show is billed as an outrageous and hilarious parody of the disco scene and will feature four actors portraying over 20 different characters. On Valentine's Day, you are invited to come in 80s disco attire and enjoy free cocktails and nibbles from 7pm. l The Rotary Club of Sandys Bermuda is marking its 40th anniversary with a black-tie gala at the Fairmont Southampton on Saturday, February 16. The guest speaker for the evening will be New York Times best-selling business author, Keith Fitz-Gerald of the Fitz-Gerald Group. Raffle tickets cost $100 and prizes include a Tanzanian safari, a weekend at The Reefs, a $2,000 gold certificate and a 46” LED TV. Funds raised will support various charities, including PALS, The Bermuda Sloop Foundation and The Salvation Army. General admission is $250; patron tickets are $500. l Registration is now open for Argus Walks the Walk. This Charity 5K Walk, organised by the Centre on Philanthropy, will be on Sunday, February 24 from 8.30am and will start and finish in front of the Argus Building on Wesley Street. The registration fee is $25 and $20 goes to the charity of your choice with the other $5 going to support www.volunteer.bm, Bermuda's only volunteer recruitment website. l The Eliza DoLittle Society’s 7th Annual Soup-A-Bowl, will be held in the Fairmont Hamilton Princess ballroom on Monday, February 25. Cocktails are on offer from 6pm until 9pm. Ticket prices $80 per person or $1000 for patron tables of eight include local entertainment and tasting of soups prepared by Bermuda's top chefs, as well as amateur entrants, all competing to be judged Bermuda's best soup.
