The red card on Nani was quite harsh

It was a hard week for Manchester United fans as they were knocked out of the Champions League in controversial fashion on Wednesday.Playing at home at Old Trafford and having Real Madrid subdued for the match until the sending off of Nani would surely be a bitter pill for their fans to come to grips with.It was hard decision to say the least after looking at the replay, you can see that he is really trying to get to the ball ahead of the Madrid player and unfortunately hits him with the high boot, although the contact was minimal to say the least.I still find it hard to believe that the ref would not look at the bigger picture and see that there wasn’t anything malicious, that Nani was looking at the ball while it was in the air and a yellow would have been justifiable. The loss will surely take a while to get over but they must put it to the back of their minds if they are to compete on the domestic front for the rest of the honours availableNext up for them is Chelsea who also had a bad result losing in the Europa League to Steaua Bucharest on the road, and will be trying to get back on the winning foot as soon as possible.Chelsea have been swamped in turmoil throughout the season and never seems to go away, but if they are to turn around their fortunes there would not be a better time then to beat United to advance to the semifinals of the FA Cup.No one can really understand what is going on at Stamford bridge but what we do know is that there is an owner at the club that doesn’t like to lose and wants to win playing attractive football in the process. While the week was bad for some, it will be judgement week for the rest of the sides looking to book their places in the last eight of the Champions League, most notably Barcelona. The Catalans need to overturn a 2-0 first leg loss to AC Milan at the San Siro two weeks ago if they are to advance, something that is a daunting task but one that they will back themselves to win. They have been playing football twice a week for the better part of three years and you can now see the fatigue factor coming into play when they take to the field. With that being said it will be a sin for Milan to think that they are a wounded dog and not play with the same determination that they did at home.Barca will come out with intent and the timing of the first goal of the game is crucial to the result for both sides, the earlier the better Barca, the later the better for the visitors. One team on form that can make a real assurance for their future is Tottenham who just lashed Inter Milan at home in the Europa League after winning the North London derby. They are third in the league and are comfortable to move onto the next round and are looking the real deal to make noise on the both the domestic and European stage. It remains to be seen if they can hold onto Gareth Bale, but with his form and their current run of results they will certainly be looked at in a different light from other Spurs sides of the past.
