Try a taste of Italy at wine-tasting dinner

Raise your glass: Discovery Wines is hosting a wine-tasting dinner at Griffin’s Bistro on April 7

• Calling all Italophiles, Discovery Wines promise an event that you won’t want to miss at their Italian Wine Tasting Dinner on Thursday, April 7. This special evening at Griffin’s Bistro at the St George’s Club will begin with Prosecco being served by the pool from 6.30pm. Then, each delectable course of the six-course dinner will be paired with an Italian wine from Discovery Wines. The cost is $110 per person, which does not include gratuities. • Children aged 3 to 8 can have fun while learning the importance of teamwork at Sportz Mania’s 2016 Spring Multi-Sport programmes running every Saturday from April 9 until May 28 at Somersfield Academy. Sportz Mania provides children the opportunity to learn and participate in a variety of sports and recreational activities in a non-competitive environment. Their goal is to provide children with a unique and exciting learning experience, while also promoting sportsmanship, perseverance, teamwork, and respect. • Marking the centenary of the 1916 Irish Rising, the Bermuda Irish Association is hosting a Gala Black Tie Dinner on Saturday, April 9. From 7pm at the Hamilton Princess, this will be a fun-filled evening that starts with a four course dinner including wine. Music will be performed by Spraoi, a group of very talented Irish musicians, and there will also be an exciting Irish dance performance by a group that includes dancers that previously performed in Michael Flatley’s world famous Lord of the Dance show. A key note speech will be given by George Hook, a well known Irish media personality. There will also be a raffle on the night with some great prizes. Tickets are $150 per person. • The Ludwig Cann 5K Race for 2016 will take place on Sunday, April 10. The event will start off with the Walkers at 8.30am, followed by the Runners at 9am. The race route will start at the western entrance to Astwood Park, heading west along South Road and turning around at Gulfstream Restaurant (formerly Tio Pepe) before heading east back to Astwood Park entering the eastern gate to the finish line. Categories are Juniors (16 to 19), Open (20 to 39), Masters (40 to 49), Seniors (50 to 59), and Veterans (60+). Prizes will be awarded in First Male and Female Adult Runner Overall, First, Second and Third (Male & Female) in the various categories, and First, Second and Third Overall for Walkers (no distinction between sexes). All finishers are also eligible for draw prizes but must be present to win. There will also be a prize awarded for the best Ludwig Cann outfit. Entry fees are $32 for runners and walkers, $27 for Swan’s members and walkers and $37 for late entries. • The April edition of the monthly Ciné Club from L’Alliance Française des Bermudes will be showing La Belle et la Bête (Beauty and the Beast) at 8pm on Tuesday, April 12. Screening in the Tradewinds Auditorium at BUEI, this French fantasy/romance with English subtitles is from director Christophe Gans with Vincent Cassell, Léa Seydoux and André Dussollier. An unexpected romance blooms after the the youngest daughter of a merchant who has fallen on hard times offers herself to the mysterious beast to which her father has become indebted. All members of the public are welcome. Tickets are available at the door and cost $5 for AF/BUEI members, $10 for non-members and $5 for students. • To conclude the music series at Bermuda National Gallery, Joy T. Barnum will perform in City Hall’s Earl Cameron Theatre with special guests on Friday, April 22nd.

The exhibition preview will start at 7pm, followed by the performance at 7.30pm. The cost is $40 for members and $50 for non-members. Only 375 tickets are available and they can be purchased at the BNG front desk. For more information, contact 295-9428.

• The Sandy’s Parish Council cordially invites you to join them at their Wine Tasting Fundraiser on Friday, April 22. From 7pm until 9.30pm at the Sandy’s Boat Club, the evening will also include light hors d’oeuvres, a cash bar, raffles and music by DJ Blacka Knights. The cost is $50 for the wine-tasting or $20 for fruit punch, and available from www.pTix.bm and Cesar’s Pharmacy. • BUEI invite you to join them for their biggest fundraiser and best party of the year at their Annual Underwater Extravaganza on Saturday, April 23. The evening will begin at 7pm and will include underwater surprises, cocktails, a sit down dinner with drinks at the Harbourfront, a spectacular silent auction and dancing to The Big Chill.
