Hurricane training exercise is hailed as big success

THE Bermuda Regiment, along with the Police Service, the Fire Service, St. John Ambulance Brigade personnel, the Department of Works & Engineering and the Department of Parks took part in an inter-service hurricane training exercise last Saturday dubbed "Exercise Hurricane Hagar".

The aim was to prepare the Regiment for its role in Emergency Measures Organisation (EMO)-directed operations and to offer the various services an opportunity to practise working together.

The embodiment of the Regiment is based on the directive of the Governor of Bermuda, the Government of Bermuda and the Commanding Officer of the Bermuda Regiment.

During the exercise soldiers took part in simulated scenarios that focused on search and rescue operations, public disorder, logistics (construction and use of the mobile Bailey bridge which can be erected when a standing bridge has sustained hurricane damage), road clearing, maritime operations (cordons, patrols of the coastline) and internal security (securing/protecting key points).

"Exercise Hurricane Hagar" was deemed a complete success by organisers and the various participating services.
