Barbados, US in tax treaty talks

The Barbados Advocate yesterday reported that its double taxation treaty with the United States has been under increasing pressure.

It reported that a high-level Barbados team was in Washington D.C. at the weekend for key talks on the agreement.

The article said that the US Treasury Department had placed the Caribbean island on a list of four countries whose treaties it did not consider "satisfactory".

And the Barbados Advocate said that the only way that the Treasury Department and the Inland Revenue Service would take the country off the list was to agree to a new treaty or to amend the existing one.
