BSX down as BCB falls

The Royal Gazette/Bermuda Stock Exchange Index slipped 3.85 points to close at 4,889.44 in moderate trading yesterday as just three issues traded.

Bermuda Commercial Bank, which saw its chairman and two other directors resign last week in connection with an investigation into its major shareholder, dropped 50 cents to close at $8 on volume of 500 shares. An arrest warrant has been issued for former chairman John Deuss, who is wanted for questioning in the Netherlands in connection with an investigation into First Curacao International Bank, which is being investigated because alleged tax evaders used the bank, which he fully owns.

Butterfield Bank was unchanged at $58 on volume of 2,251 shares while insurer BF&M was also unchanged at $16.25 on volume of 7,100 shares.

A total of 9,851 shares worth $245,368.25 were traded.

Trading in insurance stocks was mixed as the Bermuda Insurance Index fell 0.42 percent to close at 1,169.81.
