BSX soars 171 points

Bermuda Stock Exchange powerhouses Butterfield Bank and Belco (Holdings) sent the Royal Gazette/Bermuda Stock Exchange Index to another all-time high yesterday as it soared 171.30 points or 5.6 percent to close at 4,913.88.

On an active day of trading, Butterfield Bank gained $3.14 or 5.6 percent to close at $59.50 as investors traded 14,000 shares and Belco Holdings rose 50 cents to close at $41.50 on volume of 149 shares.

While no other issues changed price, LOM traded in 6,500 shares at $2.55, Kentucky Fried Chicken traded in 14 shares at $5.50 and BF&M traded in 605 shares at $15.

Bermuda Aviation Services traded in 4,900 shares to close at $6.75 and 25 KeyTech shares changed hands at $15.50.

The value of the shares traded on the BSX yesterday was $902,307.20 and the overall volume of shares was 26,193.

The Bermuda Insurance Index fell 11 points or 1.03 percent to close at 1,057.39.
