Caribbean relief workers ring all the right bells for BTC
Cable & Wireless technicians flew home Saturday but not before a thanks from the Bermuda Telephone Company.
The C&W workers were brought in to assist BTC with their Hurricane Fabian recovery efforts. On Friday, BTC CEO and president Francis Mussenden and C&W Bermuda vice-president Bill Pitman were in attendance at a special reception to thank BTC technicians for their efforts following the devastating September 5 hurricane.
In a press statement, BTC said that it had been approached by Cable & Wireless Bermuda after the storm with an offer to bring in thirteen workers from the Caribbean to temporarily assist with repairs. The workers worked alongside BTC employees for three weeks.
Mr. Mussenden said: "We want to express our gratitude to Cable & Wireless Bermuda for their generous offer of assistance. We also want to thank the Cable & Wireless employees who were involved in making this partnership come to fruition."
Mr. Pitman said: "Cable & Wireless is pleased to have been able to help BTC with their recovery effort. We know first hand what damage can be caused by hurricanes. Cable & Wireless also realises that the experience and knowledge gained will only benefit our technicians as well as serve to increase camaraderie amongst employees."
Following a presentation to the Cable & Wireless workers, prizes were also given out to BTC employees in recognition of efforts to restore service after Fabian.
