Crockwell: New Nomura president

Nomura Securities Bermuda has announced the appointment of Mark Crockwell as president effective June 20.

Mr. Crockwell will move from the Bermuda Monetary Authority (BMA) where he is currently the assistant director of investment and policy.

Prior to joining the BMA in 1996, Mr. Crockwell spent several years with the Bank of Bermuda.

St. Paul Re, the reinsurance operation of The St. Paul Cos., has appointed Michael Price chief underwriting officer. Eventually, Price will hold the same post at Platinum Underwriters Holdings Ltd., the Bermuda-based reinsurer that will be formed from The St. Paul's ongoing reinsurance operations.

PartnerRe Ltd. has announced the appointment of Costas Miranthis to the position of chief actuarial officer. Mr. Miranthis will have overall responsibility for the Company's actuarial function and risk management, including oversight of the Company's reserve setting and capital allocation processes.

He will be based in Bermuda and report to Albert Benchimol, executive vice president and chief financial officer. Mr. Miranthis holds a MA in Economics from Christ's College, Cambridge University, UK. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries and a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries.

Since 1997, he has been a principal with the leading international actuarial consulting firm, Tillinghast-Towers Perrin in London, UK, where his responsibilities have included managing the European non-life business, and its mergers and acquisitions practice in Europe.

"Costas' extensive experience and his international business orientation make him a natural fit with PartnerRe's global reinsurance franchise," said Patrick Thiele, president & CEO.

RenaissanceRe Holdings Ltd. and its subsidiary companies, Renaissance Reinsurance and Glencoe Insurance have announced the following promotions:

Michael W. Cash has been promoted to senior vice president - Specialty Reinsurance. Mr. Cash joined Renaissance in November 2000 and has over 11 years experience in the reinsurance industry. Prior to joining Renaissance, Mr. Cash held various underwriting positions at Centre Reinsurance and Stockton Reinsurance companies. Mr. Cash is an associate of the Casualty Actuarial Society.

Martin J. Merritt has been promoted to senior vice president - Finance and will also retain his position as Controller of RenaissanceRe Holdings Ltd. Mr. Merrit joined Renaissance in September 1996 and is a CPA. Prior to joining Renaissance, he was employed with Commercial Risk Reinsurance Company.

William J. Ashley has been promoted to senior vice president and will retain his position as chief operating officer of Glencoe Insurance. Mr. Ashley joined the company in January 2002 and prior to joining the company was executive vice president of Benfield Blanch. Mr. Ashley has over 20 years of experience in the reinsurance industry and holds the CPCU designation.

Craig W. Tillman has been promoted to senior vice president and will retain his position as chief underwriting officer of Glencoe. Mr. Tillman joined the company in February, 1997 as a senior analyst and while with the company has managed the underwriting modelling department and held various underwriting positions. Prior to joining the company, Mr Tillman was employed with Dames & Moore Inc. and has over 12 years experience in risk analysis with special emphasis on property catastrophe modelling. Mr. Tillman holds the ARM and ARe designations.

ACE USA has announced the appointment of Geoffrey G. Gregory to president, ACE Casualty Risk.

Based in Philadelphia, Mr. Gregory has responsibility for the creation of a new casualty umbrella unit within ACE USA. ACE Casualty Risk will provide up to $25M in umbrella/excess coverage to businesses whose annual revenues exceed $200M.

Coverage will be offered in the first $50M of risk transfer. Additionally, other new product lines will be announced at a future date.

"Geoff has an exceptional industry background and brings a wealth of proven experience to the ACE team," said Susan Rivera, president, ACE INA Holdings, Inc. "His keen understanding of casualty underwriting and business development, coupled with his strong leadership skills, make him an excellent complement to ACE's overall business strategy."

Mr. Gregory said: "The current challenges facing the excess casualty product line have created a need for a strong lead excess market. ACE has the financial strength and underwriting capabilities to service this need.

"ACE's focused business strategy and outstanding people will serve as a solid foundation on which to build the new Casualty Risk business."

Before joining ACE, Mr. Gregory held several progressive management roles within AIG including executive vice president and chief operating officer, Excess Casualty Division.

In this role he was responsible for establishing and implementing strategic and underwriting direction, including new product development, profitability and production.

Additionally, Mr. Gregory held various positions with Transamerica Insurance, including regional vice president of the Intermountain Region.

Mr. Gregory brings to ACE 25 years of technical experience in all aspects of property and casualty insurance, including 16 years in senior management roles.

Mr. Gregory obtained his bachelor of arts degree from Rutgers University and later earned his MBA from Regis University.
