Bermuda's first online auction site ? Kitchensink.bm ? was launched yesterday.

Modelling itself after the popular US-based auction site eBay, Kitchensink was created by GMD Consulting.

Assad Clark of GMD said the site makes it easy for sellers to get the best price for their products.

Registration is free and users simply list an item along with a description and an optional picture.

As on eBay, users can put in a "reserve price" or "buy it now" tag on their items for sale, he said.

Buyers can browse by category and bid on items by entering the maximum price they want to pay for desired items.

The website will automatically bid for shoppers up to their maximum price.

If the bidding goes above the shopper's price limit, then the system will notify shoppers at once, allowing them to log on and raise the bid if they wish.

Mr. Clark said that the website is ideal for people who are leaving the Island and want to get the best price on their goods.

Sellers can list the times they want the auction to start and end.

Buyers and sellers are both contacted to arrange for pickup or deliver of the item.

As part of the launch, Kitchensink.bm is offering a $50 credit for all users who register before July 31, Mr. Clark said.
