Providing the personal touch
Bermudian Felicia DeRoza is hoping to offer more than just a soothing massage with the opening of the Island?s newest spa company Intelligent Touch.
A former Customs officer Ms DeRoza opened the business on July 15 on Reid Street at the Hair Studio in Hamilton after looking to make a career change that would present new challenges and offer more personal fulfilment and rewards.
?I wanted a job where there is positive energy, where clients have their spirits lifted and feel more rejuvenated to deal with the daily stresses of life,? Ms DeRoza said.
After experiencing an intoxicating massage she decided it was time for her to establish her own massage therapy business offering a more holistic approach to treatments, tailor-made for each client rather than run of the mill cosmetic services.
?The programme in my practice is very clinical. I enjoy the relaxation part of the hydrotherapy treatments but I want to alleviate causes of pain.?
Ms DeRoza attended the Elm Crest College of Applied Health Sciences in Toronto, undertaking a rigorous programme of clinical training to become a certified massage therapist.
During the programme she attended North York Hospital working in the labour and delivery unit where she massaged women in labour and worked at the Cabbage Town Boxing Club providing treatments to boxers during and after training sessions. Intelligent Touch offers a full suite of massage services including Swedish, hydrotherapy treatments, sports therapy and therapeutic treatments for carpal tunnel syndrome, diabetes, fractures, and more.
Ms DeRoza believes clients will respond well to her level of personal service as she wants to offer more than just a relaxing massage, rather she aims to create a spa experience addressing a variety of health and wellness issues.
