Scolars receive awards
Graduating students and new scholarship recipients were congratulated on Wednesday night at the Bermuda Foundation for Insurance Studies' summer reception. BFIS offers two-year scholarships to Bermudian students at both Bermuda College and for studies overseas in insurance-related programmes. This year's graduates included James Botelho, LaVonne Lee and Leticia Trott, who will all be starting in the local insurance industry this coming year. Recipients of this year's overseas scholarships - which are each $22,000 - included Daniel Barker, Anne Marwick and Zikomo Simmons. BFIS Scholarship Committee Chairman Paul Simons told The Royal Gazette that qualifications of the 12 applicants for the overseas scholarship were higher than in the past. Mr. Simons said BFIS's increasing visibility within the community has led to greater competition for the scholarships. Bermuda College Scholarship winners included Kenton Trott, Michelle Outerbridge, and Alexander Butterfield, who will each receive $3,000.
