XL appoints Kohl European manager
XL Re Ltd. announced that Dieter Kohl has been appointed to the new position of senior vice president and continental European casualty manager.
Mr. Kohl will be based in London, England, and will report to David Watson, executive vice president and general manager of XL Re Ltd., London branch. He will be responsible for the management and development of multi- national casualty business for continental European clients. Mr. Kohl has 24 years experience in worldwide casualty reinsurance, in particular continental European casualty markets, environmental impairment liability, electro magnetic fields, US liability and product recall.
Mr. Watson said: "We are very pleased to acquire an underwriter with Dieter's experience to head our European casualty business unit. We believe this will enable us to expand relationships with our clients as we strive to develop our casualty business in continental Europe."
Charles Werner Skrzynski, chief executive officer of XL Re Europe, added: "Dieter's extensive knowledge and experience of the European casualty market will allow us to fully respond to brokers' and clients' needs, particularly in motor and non-motor casualty reinsurance."
Mr. Kohl joins XL Re Ltd from GE ERC Global P&C Reinsurance where he served as product leader of all casualty treaty business in Europe and Asia. Prior to that, he was head of the Casualty Center of Excellence at GE Frankona Re Munich. He has served in a number of managerial positions at Frankona Re Munich in both London and Germany.

Arch Insurance Group, a division of Arch Capital Group Ltd., announced that Norman Jones has been appointed vice president, commercial hull & marine liabilities, beginning October 15.
In his new role, Mr. Jones will focus on developing and growing Arch's hull along with primary and excess and marine liabilities portfolio within the marine insurance industry. Mr. Jones will be based in Arch Insurance Group's Philadelphia offices and will report to Vincent Liotta, senior vice president, Global Marine and Energy.
"Norman's expertise in the field of engineering, along with his direct and reinsurance underwriting experience brings an exciting dimension to our organisation which will no doubt be advantageous for our customers. He is a skilled professional and I look forward to working with him," said Mr. Liotta.
Mr. Jones has 30 years experience in the marine insurance industry. Prior to joining Arch, he was vice president and manager of the Mid-Atlantic region at ACE USA. In his former role, Mr. Jones managed teams in Philadelphia and Atlanta, with a portfolio that included major cargo, inland hull and liability risks throughout the mid-Atlantic and Southeast US. In the ten years prior to joining ACE he managed the treaty and facultative Marine operations for Munich Reinsurance Company in the US.
