More than 500 airport employees went on strike on Friday, causing only minor delays to most flights -- but fuelling predictions that disruptions would worsen as the walkout continues.

The strikers -- including administrative, maintenance and computer staff at Pearson International Airport -- walked off the job after contract talks broke down Thursday evening. And leaders of the striking Union of Canadian Transport Employees doubted management would be able to keep the airport running smoothly if the strike continues into next week.

But an Air Canada spokesperson said: "We don't anticipate any delays (arriving into or departing from Bermuda) because we do our own handling.'' UNIONS UNS
