The New Singles Club of Bermuda was formed "to get the single community together,'' said organiser Ms Linda Desormeaux.

"I want to get single adults together. That includes the never mar ried, the divorced, widows and widowers.'' Singles will dine, attend parties and luncheons and other group activities at least once a month.

Ms Desormeaux, who came to Bermuda seven months ago from Louisiana, said she carried the idea around in her head since December.

"In Louisiana singles clubs are popular. They are a good way to meet people, and obtain good travel group rates and start friendships.'' So far Ms Desormeaux said she had received between 35 and 40 responses, the vast majority of those from women.

"I hope I get some more guys showing interest so we can have a better balance,'' she said.
