CME wins German licences

Dresden and Leipzig to a consortium in which Bermuda-registered Central European Media Enterprises has a significant stake.

Dr. Dietmar Straube, general manager of consortium member Sachsen Funk and Fernsehen GmbH, in which CME is an investor, and president of CME in Germany said: "Regional television in Germany is expanding rapidly and the `Total Local' concept, where a regional station schedule consists of only regionally produced programmes, is gaining high viewer acceptance in the new local broadcasting stations, where we have demonstrated its popularity.'' He continued: "We will offer our viewers in Dresden and Leipzig programming with a strong local identity, from professionally produced news programming and documentaries to entertainment and sport, made in the region for our viewers.

Dr. Straube founded and continues to run one of the first regional television stations in Germany, Franken FFF, which broadcasts in Nuremberg and the surrounding area.
