Couple kicks off martial arts shop
Hamilton.
The Bermuda Martial Arts Supply shop is a joint venture by husband and wife team Juliet and Delroi Flood, who are not only enthusiasts, but also teach it.
Mr. and Mrs. Flood spotted the need for a supply store when they started teaching and had to order outfits for their pupils. Sometimes there were months of delays before delivery.
"It has been hard work, but we are there now,'' said Mrs. Flood while making final preparations to the Ewing Street store, next to the Groom Room. "It is a dream come true. I wanted the shop to be just like this, with windows and all the equipment filling the shelves. I cannot wait for it to open on Saturday.'' Two years ago the couple started in earnest to get everything they needed to open the store. They travelled through China to Hong Kong and Singapore, picking up the supplies they needed.
There is also a large video and a book section. Prices range from $1.50 for martial arts post cards imported from China to thousands of dollars for special wooden dummies for training.
The couple have also branched out and brought in boxing gloves and gym-wear as well as novelty t-shirts.
