Bermuda-based Mid Ocean Reinsurance Company Ltd. yesterday announced the appointment of Mr. Adrian Walter as vice president.

Mr. Walter will oversee the underwriting of an aviation excess of loss reinsurance account.

Mr. Walter will initially underwrite the account from Mid Ocean's Bermuda headquarters, but he is expected to move to London where the company plans a branch office, which is pending approval from regulators.

Before joining Mid Ocean, Mr. Walter was aviation underwriter for Sirius Insurance (UK) plc.

"As was the case with marine and energy, Mid Ocean Reinsurance Company has underwritten an aviation excess of loss account and there is an opportunity now to expand this book of business. We are very pleased to be able to have Adrian Walter join our team of specialist reinsurance underwriters, as he will add a further depth to our expertise in this area,'' said Mr. Michael Butt, president and CEO.
