Mrs. Williams-James began making the 19 to 21 inch-tall dolls after leaving her job as a local mortician.

Over the last two years, she has sold over 300 at prices of $40 for a Gombey warrior and $50 for a Gombey captive.

"It has really taken off,'' said Mrs. Williams-James. "Visitors just can't get enough of them.'' The brightly-decorated dolls are made from felt, velour, other material, sequins, pieces of cardboard and mirror and peacock feathers.

They are available for sale from her home and at Ford's New World Bakery, in Glebe Road, Pembroke.

Smaller ornamental Gombeys, suitable for hanging on Christmas trees, are also available for $10 each.
