January inflation rate falls

Food recorded an average increase of 0.4 percent as a consequence of increases in seasonal fresh fruits and vegetables.

Meanwhile transport and vehicles increased 0.3 percent because of higher gasoline prices -- 0.2 percent -- and the 20 percent hike in taxi rates which became effective January 1.

Consumers did benefit from lower prices recorded in the fuel and power sector which decreased 1.4 percent.

The fuel adjustment clause declined 9.2 percent in January after a strong rise last December.
