Legislation in conference spotlight
expected to attend the second biannual corporate risk conference of the Bermuda International Shipping Association (BISA) in October.
The conference will focus on changes in legislation, such as the Oil Pollution Act in the US, which concern the industry.
"Companies today are exposed to increasingly strident and challenging risks and liablities,'' BISA chairman John O'Kelly-Lynch said. "This conference will help identify these areas with industry professionals sharing their expertise and proposed solutions to these complex issues.'' The three day conference, which begins on October 8 at the Sonesta Beach Resort, will include a discussion of the impact of evolving safety conventions and legislation on corporate risk management in the industry. Marine Transport Lines and Intertanko chairman Richard DuMoulin, Atlantic Marine Ltd.
Partnership president Bruce Lucas, the US Coast Guard director of standards Joe Angelo will tackle the issues in a discussion panel.
Lawyers Colin de la Rue and Nick Tommasino will talk about commercial law and tax legislation during another panel discussion. Representatives of three major suppliers in Bermuda of Certificates of Financial Responsibility (COFR) to the industry will form another panel.
WAREHOUSE, AUTO BODY SHOP PLANNED BUC Warehouse, autobody shop planned Private property developer North Cote Ltd. is planning to build a three storey warehouse and autobody repair shop on land the company owns on Bakery Lane.
Managing director Stephen Dallas said the autobody shop was being built as a potential joint venture with another company. An existing warehouse on the site will be demolished to make way for the 13,000 sq. ft. building. North Cote also owns the property across the street in which Standard Hardware Co.
Ltd. is located.
INSURER DECLARES DIVIDEND BUC Insurer declares quarterly dividend Bermuda-based insurer, RenaissanceRe Holdings Ltd. has declared its regularly quarterly dividend of 25 cents per common share, payable September 3 to shareholders of record August 20.
The company is a global reinsurer and insurer through its Bermuda firm Renaissance Reinsurance Ltd., and Bermuda insurer Glencoe Insurance Ltd., concentrating on a core property catastrophe business line.
