Motorists go car . . . azy over new DuPont paint!
Illusion, that appears to make your car change colour in an instant to six different colours.
The owners of Auto Express on Addendum Lane in Pembroke said the more people find out about it, the more they are interested in having their cars spray painted.
Auto Express owner Paul Pacheco said one product, green jade, seems to change colour from green to blue, gold, purple, silver and red. There are also other colours.
That will make it harder for an identification when someone is trying to make a quick get-a-way.
Asked if it was TCD approved, he replied, "It must be. Even a policeman just had his car sprayed.'' It is in such demand, Auto Express is charging $2,500 for a spray painting job, instead of $1,000 with their standard spray painting of a car. Mr.
Pacheco said, "And some companies on the Island are already charging more than that, including up to $5,000 for this paint.
"My partner Paul Martin and I went to the US to take a course in the paint's application. We also sell it for $195 a pint. It is expensive paint, but there is a great deal of interest in it.
"That's because, when you look at it, it might be green. But if you take two steps, it is a different colour. It uses diamond flakes, as opposed to metallic flakes and it can look a different colour depending on how the light hits the paint flakes.
"It is more difficult to apply and it is a two stage paint.''
