New `Fence' distributor
DogWatch Hidden Fence System, which gives dogs a mild electric shock to prevent them from straying.
The system is similar to the Invisible Fence product which is also available on the Island from Invisible Fencing Bermuda.
Mr. Ed Pereira, owner of Island Pet Supply, said the main difference was that DogWatch's product had three degrees of electric shock or "stimulation''.
"The customer can set the stimulation to a level that is in accordance with the size of their dog. The minimum stimulation level is for small dogs, the medium level for medium-sized dogs and so on.'' The DogWatch Hidden Fence System involves a radio transmitter, operating on a standard 110-volt outlet, which sends a coded AM radio signal through a boundary wire.
The wire, which is installed at or just below ground level, goes around an area in which the dog is to be contained.
A lightweight receiver collar worn by the dog identifies the radio signal from the boundary wire.
The receiver can deliver both an audible warning and a mild electric shock to discourage the dog from crossing the boundary line.
A basic DogWatch system retails in Bermuda for a minimum of $650, with the price going up in proportion to the length of wire required.
