Small business given forum for networking
Small business owners often do not have the same networking opportunities as some of the larger companies on the Island.
Now, the Bermuda Small Business Development Corporation has teamed up with both Colonial Insurance and Bank of Bermuda to change all of this.
Next Thursday, April 27, the `Small Business Networking Cocktail Reception' will be held at the Harbour Room at Shed No 1 in Hamilton, and organisers say all small businesses are invited.
William Spriggs, General Manager of The Small Business Development Corporation said: "As the theme will be partnering, this Networking Cocktail reception will feature a number of small businesses that have worked together to help create this special event.
"The reception also acts as a forerunner to the Corporation's fourth Annual Small Business Gala Tribute, to be held the first Saturday in May.'' The organisers hope the event will provide a forum for local small business entrepreneurs to meet other like-minded small business owners in an informal setting.
They have invited bankers, accountants and key Government representatives to discuss the services that they offer to assist small businesses.
Joel Brown, Vice President, Commercial Loans Manager, Bank of Bermuda, said: "We're delighted to be co-sponsoring this event. We hope that this reception will give local small business owners the opportunity to meet with people in a similar situation to themselves in order to share ideas.'' Mr. Spriggs added: "Networking is smart business strategy and cannot be overlooked in the marketplace. However, serious networking or first-stage partnering, can require an attitude adjustment as parties start to form a relationship of teamwork, cooperation and good faith performance.
"How many times have we waited in vain for a work estimate to be faxed from our service provider, only to have to secure another quote from another business? Today's entrepreneur must understand the basic rules of networking, one of which is quickly following through and delivering on promises'' Reception for small business In addition to good food, beverages, music, giveaway prizes and drinks, the Networking Cocktail reception will also have an educational component, with entrepreneurs being able to take away information packages on effective networking and partnering.
The cocktail party is free and to attend small businesses should call the Small Business Development Corporation at 292-5570.
