Caffe Latte's Cyber Caffe on Water Street opened its tech-side on May 1; so contrary to reports in the Bermuda Sun, the Pasta Pasta Web XS cybercafe was not the first cybercafe to open in St. George's. And, in fact, even before Caffe Latte Cyber Caffe and Web XS, Ocean Sails has for some time been offering Internet access terminals with very low rates, aimed mostly at sailors who visit St. George's. Caffe Latte owner Cathy Benevides said she decided to offer Internet access at the St. George's location of her gourmet coffee business after the shop space next to it, in the same building, became available. St. George's Humidor decided to end its lease, but in an agreement with Mrs. Benevides, will keep two of its humidors filled with choice Cuban and other imported cigars at the coffee shop to be sold on its behalf.

Mrs. Benevides said she has furnished the cybercafe with three computer terminals, with more on the way, and comfortable couches. There is also a book exchange aimed at visiting sailors. "It was something I have wanted to do at the location for a long time, and when St. George's Humidor decided to get out, we took advantage,'' she said.
