Butterfield's new Front Street building entered the home stretch last week.

Begun in April of 1993, the new building, which was designed by the architectural firm of Barker and Linberg, is scheduled to be occupied this fall.

Construction on the existing head office building, which will start in the fall, has a completion date of late 1995.

The new building will have a traditional Bermudian look, including push-out shutters, profile gable-end roof and step-backed terraces.

Bermuda cedar from the original building site has been "carefully removed'' and will be used in the new building.

Heavy construction on the exterior is almost finished and construction equipment previously on the pavement has been removed.

According to the bank, "the next phase of construction will have minimal impact on tourists.''
