WEEKLY UPDATE: Banks regain ground
share prices when they gained ground at the close of trading last week.
Bank of Bermuda gained 50 cents to close at $18 on volume of 9,658 while Bank of Butterfield gained 25 cents to close at $10.75 on volume of 27,452.
The Exchange Index closed up 7.95 points or .77 percent to 996.53.
The two banks closed last week down 75 cents and 37.5 cents respectively.
In other trading last week, seven issues closed down while two traded unchanged.
Bermuda Commercial Bank traded at $8 on volume of 1,000, following the announcement of their rights offering. Prioer to the rights offring, it traded at $10.
Belco dropped $1 to close at $18.50 on volume of 2,071.
BSL lost 75 cents to close at $7.25 on volume of 100 while Hemisphere Group preferred dropped 75 cents to close at $5.50 on volume of 500.
Bermuda Aviation Services lost 50 cents to close at $2.50 on volume of 2,950 while Bermuda Bakery dropped 50 cents to close at $18 on volume of 240.
Bank of Bermuda 9% Sub. US$ Cap. Nts 2001 closed down 37.5 cents at 102.125 on volume of 169,000 units.
Issues trading unchanged were; Bermuda Press, $8, 856, and Belco 7% 1st mort.
nts. 1998 closed unchanged at 101 on volume of 67,000 units.
Share volume was 44,827 with a value of $570,054.
Bond volume was 236,000 units with a value of $240,374.
Total value of trading was $810,427.
