position at Lloyd's, announcing new appointments at the firm.
ACE London at Lloyd's said yesterday that Gary Starling would join the firm in mid-March, after underwriting the international property book at Murray Lawrence.
ACE last week unveiled a revised corporate strategy for its ACE London syndicates, and Mr. Starling will soon be developing new business within the syndicates, possibly as an underwriter of a new ACE corporate syndicate based on his own areas of expertise.
Chief executive Leslie Goodman said, "His role will be to develop new areas of business for us, complementary to our existing operations, and maximise the opportunities which arise from our being part of the rapidly expanding ACE group of companies.'' Mr. Starling commented: "I am delighted to be joining ACE London. This provides me with an exciting and secure platform from which to develop new non-marine business for the group.'' Meanwhile, senior partner of London solicitors, Titmuss Sainer Dechert, Michael Smith, is joining the boards of ACE UK Ltd. and of each of the ACE London managing agencies as non executive director. Mr. Smith has represented many clients in Lloyd's and in the London insurance market and has been involved with a variety of market working parties looking at Lloyd's issues.
ACE UK chairman Bill Loschert said, "Michael's background, experience and knowledge will be of enormous benefit to us and we are very much looking forward to him joining us.''
