Bermuda lawyers at Paris conference

important business law conference in the world -- the 12th Biennial Conference of the International Bar Association's (IBA) Section on Business Law.

The Bermuda contingent is led by the IBA secretary general, Mrs. Dianna Kempe Q.C., J.P.,the managing partner of Appleby, Spurling & Kempe (AS&K).

Mrs. Kempe, the first female secretary general of the IBA, potentially will also be the first female president in 1998.

More than 1500 lawyers from 110 jurisdictions are present. The conference runs throughout this week, and on Thursday Mrs. Kempe will chair the GPP Computer Session.

Other AS&K lawyers attending include Deputy Premier, the Hon. Jerome Dill, Ms Judy Collis and Mr. Peter Bubenzer. Mr. Bubenzer will be giving a joint presentation on Escrow Agreements to the SBL Committee G3 (trusts for business) and SBL Committee E (banking law).

The participants from Bermuda are using the opportunity to promote the Island as an ideal forum to delegates attending from other countries.

Other firms represented include Milligan-Whyte & Smith, Conyers, Dill & Pearman and Cox & Wilkinson.

Mrs. Kempe, the vice president, director and executive member of the Bermuda International Business Association (BIBA), is also promoting BIBA's interests.
