BII promtoing insurance jobs to parents
parents of college and university students in an effort to promote careers in insurance.
The institute is also planning a careers reception this summer to provide students with information about the industry.
In the letter to parents, BII director Mr. Ian Linnegan said: "As you are aware, the Island is currently facing some tough economic problems. Despite this widespread decline, Bermuda's local and international insurance business continues to prosper.
"We wish to write to your son/daughter advising them to take a serious look at Bermuda's insurance industry as a possible career path to follow when they complete their studies.'' Mr. Linnegan said the BII has films, videos and computer-based training services helpful in learning more about the industry.
Also enclosed with the letter is a BII insurance careers pamphlet, explaining what insurance is, why young Bermudians should choose a career in insurance, and Bermuda's position as the world's leading captive domicile.
The pamphlet also includes a message from Premier the Hon. Sir John Swan, who said: "The opportunities for Bermudians in this exciting industry are almost limitless.'' He said "it is clear...that Bermuda's international business is heavily dependent upon insurance and insurance-related companies. There is every indication that this will remain the case in the foreseeable future.
"...it is up to Bermudians to respond by learning more about this vitally important industry and to train for positions of importance in the insurance field.''
