Black Watch pays second visit of year

The Black Watch cruise ship -- sailing out of Halifax with 551 passengers -- visited the Island for only the second time this year on Tuesday.

She stopped briefly in Hamilton before departing yesterday for Nassau, Bahamas.

And the regular cruise season visitors also continued with Monday's arrival of the Zenith and her 1,400 passengers. The Zenith sets sail today.

She was followed on Tuesday by the Song of America , Norwegian Majesty and Horizon . The ships carried 1,471, 1,102 and 1,388 passengers respectively.

All three ships leave tomorrow.

In freight news, next week should see the return of regular container vessels Bermuda Islander and Oleander .

A spokesman for Meyer agencies said docks were unusually busy as extra charter vessels made mid-week runs with less than average loads as delays due to the overtime stoppage on Hamilton Docks began to bite.

On Monday the Argosy arrived from Salem, New Jersey with 47 dry and 14 refrigerated containers.

The Somers Isles arrived two days late out of Florida with 87 dry and 7 refrigerated containers, 16 bundles of lumber, and 12 bundles of pipe and steel.

This week's final shipment of 30 dry and 5 refrigerated containers was scheduled to arrive this morning aboard the charter vessel Panyoapa . She is sailing out of Salem, New Jersey and expected to depart later today.

And a spokeswoman for Container Ship Management said the Admiralengracht brought in 122 dry and 37 refrigerated containers, and a road trailer of building material for the Oleander's usual Sunday run.

Both oil companies had deliveries to the Island this week. The Knud Kosan dispensed propane for Shell on Sunday before leaving early Monday morning.

And the Iver Expert tanker sailing out of St. Croix discharged fuel at the Esso oil pier on Monday before leaving on Tuesday.

One further addition to the busy week was the research vessel Lorelei which berthed at Penno's Wharf on Sunday to take on fuel. The Lorelei departed Tuesday morning for Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
