Concert Ltd. -- a $7 billion global venture between two of the world's largest communications firms from opposite sides of the Atlantic -- will run two parts of its operation from a local base.

The venture between AT&T and BT is to begin global communication operations this year with an emphasis on serving multi-national business customers, international carriers and Internet service providers.

Company spokeswoman Patricia Stortz reported yesterday: "Bermuda is a respected centre for international commerce. Its political stability, proximity to the US and UK, and its economy and infrastructure, were all compelling factors that led to the decision to bring the two units here.''
