Busy cruise season on cards as schedule starts

The cruise ship season began in earnest for Bermuda stalwart the Zenith and Horizon with Meyer Agency's Captain John Moore predicting a terrific season.

The pair made their first US to Bermuda runs this week after repositioning from the winter Caribbean beat last week.

The Horizon brought 1,189 passengers into St. George's on Monday, before hitting Hamilton yesterday. The ship will head back to New York tomorrow.

The Zenith brought 1,168 passengers into Hamilton on Monday and will stop at St. George's today before sailing to the States tomorrow.

Captain Moore said: "I expect a bumper year with full ships, there's no question about it.'' The Norwegian Majesty is due in with 1,489 passengers tomorrow and will set sail for New York on Friday which will be its home port for the summer season as it embarks on its weekly Bermuda run.

The Azores-bound cruise ship Millennium brought 1,930 passengers from Florida yesterday and will set off today.

And it was business as usual for importers this week.

The Oleander brought in 178 dry containers and 34 refrigerated containers from New Jersey on Sunday.

Also on board were eight flatbed containers, one boat and two open containers.

The Somers Isles brought in 91 containers including two refrigerated containers, five boats, one mobile office and 70 bundles of plywood and lumber.

The Bermuda Islander is due in tomorrow with 109 containers and 19 refrigerated containers.
