Ceramic tile company grows into big business

extensive business which now sells ceramic tiles as well as hardwood floors, quality rugs and kitchen cabinets. "You can only sell so much ceramic tile,'' said Mr. Lewis. "And we had reached our ceiling for growth in tile sales. In order for the company to develop, we had to introduce new products.'' Eurotile's kitchen cabinet inventory includes the popular upscale Neff custom-made line, which is crafted with marine plywood. All drawers are lined with a stainless steel base. Said Mr. Lewis: "People in Bermuda often fear that objects will rot. But cabinets made with marine plywood will last for a very long time. And the designs are wonderful.'' Neff, a Canadian product, is European by design. "It has a very clean look,'' said Mr. Lewis. Design Line, another popular wood kitchen cabinetry option, also allows for a custom made kitchen that reflects the customers' own tastes and styles. "Design Line has a wonderful American look,'' noted Mr. Lewis, adding that Eurotile will design kitchens using either product line according to the customers' specifications.

Various ready to assemble kitchens by Mill's Pride, a US company, can also be purchased from Eurotile Bermuda. And although they are not top of the line, "they give good value for the price you pay,'' said Mr. Lewis. The ready to assemble line combines durability and style. Choose oak or fibreboard frames, both of which are enhanced by brass-plated knobs. To supplement a newly designed kitchen, Eurotile Bermuda also sells Blanco faucets. Combining attractive design, creative colour combinations and quality, every Blanco faucet comes with the latest in backflow prevention and water conservation.

The pull-out spray head operates with single touch selection for solid flow or spray. And looped handles make exact flow and temperature settings easy. A great step forward in kitchen accessory design and function, Blanco makes superb quality faucets, said Mr. Lewis. Eurotile also offers Bermuda the best in hardwood floors by US company, Bruce Hardwood Floors, a division of Triangle Pacific Corp. The industry's finest technology, like computer-controlled drying kilns and precision milling and finishing equipment, is used to manufacture Bruce's hardwood floors which can be installed in any room over almost any surface including concrete.

"Traditionally Bermuda homes had hardwood floors,'' said Mr. Lewis. "But then concrete became popular because it's cheaper and more stable. "Today, however, the advances in technology allow for hardwood floors to be placed over concrete. So we're hoping people will go back to the traditional look,'' he said, adding that Eurotile brought hardwood floors in a year ago. "We're very pleased with the response so far. People are moving away from wall-to-wall carpeting because it wears out and is difficult to clean. But hardwood floors and ceramic tiles are easy to keep clean.'' Bruce hardwood floors are available in selected oak hardwood chosen with natural characteristics for a more rustic, casual style. Maple and hickory hardwood is also available for a clean more sophisticated upscale appearance. Bruce, which has led the industry in the development of innovative, patented product technology for over a century, offers various different styles, colours and patterns, he said. To complement a new hardwood floor, a selection of hand-made rugs can be purchased at Eurotile. "We have a fabulous collection of hand-knotted, hand-woven, needle-point and Chinese hand-carved rugs,'' noted Mr. Lewis, adding that Eurotile also sells wall-to-wall carpeting. A small assortment of kilims, which are throw pillows covered in hand-woven fabrics, are also available. "There are many things one can do with different hand-woven materials. For example, you can take a flat weave rug and cover an antique chair,'' said Mr. Lewis. "We can advise customers on these kinds of projects.'' A selection of tools, fixtures, floor edges and installation products are also for sale at Eurotile. "We have tools for the do-it-your-selfers,'' said Mr. Lewis. "But I recommend that customers get qualified professionals to lay their tile and hardwood floors. A handyman can do a small tiling job. But once you start turning right angles, it can look sloppy. "And floors are never even in Bermuda -- a professional knows how to even them out. So it's better to get a pro to do any project of size.'' For two decades, Bermudians have relied on Eurotile's quality, value, choice and service for ceramic tiles. And today, that same quality and customer service can be found in Eurotile's kitchen cabinets, carpets and hardwood floors.
