Cruise ships arrive bringing thousands of visitors ashore
A full slate of regular cruise ships brought more than 5,000 visitors to Bermuda this week.
The MV Horizon carried 1,364 passengers from New York when she arrived on Monday. After spending two nights in Hamilton she'll sail back to New York today.
Meyer Agencies also reported that the Dreamward arrived on Monday with 1,240 passengers. She leaves Bermuda today.
And the Meridian , which arrived at King's Wharf in Dockyard with 1,069 passengers on Tuesday, was scheduled to leave Bermuda at 1 p.m. today.
John S. Darrell reported that the Song of America arrived, from Puerto Rico, berthing in St. George's on Tuesday with 1,064 passengers. She moved to Hamilton yesterday afternoon and was scheduled to leave for New York tomorrow afternoon.
Royal Majesty was scheduled to arrive from the Bahamas yesterday at 5 p.m. She sails on Thursday for Baltimore.
Darrell confirmed that the $250-million Crystal Symphony was scheduled to make her maiden voyage to Bermuda from New York on Saturday afternoon. Passenger numbers were not available. But the 800-foot 50,200-ton ship can accommodate 960 passengers and 500 crew members. NYK Line's Crystal Symphony will dock at King's Wharf in Dockyard until Sunday evening when she is scheduled to leave for Tortola in the British Virgin Islands.
Darrell also reported that the crew members on board the US Coast Guard ship Campbell were scheduled to arrive in Dockyard last evening for sea provisions and rest and relaxation. The ship was scheduled to leave on Sunday.
The Holland-American cruise ship Maasdam made her Spring visit for the year yesterday. She was expecting to pick up some local passengers before departing for the Azores.
In other shipping news, Bermuda Islander arrived one day ahead of schedule on Monday due to new, faster engines. A total of 84 containers, including five refrigerated and two horses, were unloaded from the container ship before she left for Salem, New Jersey on Tuesday morning.
Meyer Agencies also reported that the Somers Isles arrived on Sunday with 90 containers, including seven refrigerated containers. She left on Monday morning.
And the Iver Express arrived last Saturday to discharge fuel at the Esso oil docks in St. George's before sailing to Spain the next day.
Container Ship Management reported that the Oleander arrived on schedule on Sunday afternoon with 173 containers, including 33 refrigerated containers, four cars, three trucks, a utility trailer, four 45-foot trailers of steel, four horses and other building materials. She left Bermuda on Tuesday.
The Dutch three-masted 187-foot Rembrandt Van Rein arrived in St. George's on Tuesday afternoon for refuelling on her way to Holland.
