`dead'. The 28-year-old, of Fishermans Acres, Paget was confused by Bank of
died after being thrown from a horse last month. Mr. Jones told The Royal Gazette yesterday: "I couldn't believe it. I went to the bank and they had closed all my accounts because they thought I was the man who died. "I am 28, this guy was 21 and we don't live anywhere near each other.'' The tale began on May 2 when Mr. Jones went to withdraw money from the bank's automated teller machine. The machine refused to give him any cash. "I went to the bank on Saturday morning and could not get into my account. The machine would let me get my balance and everything else like that through my card but when I went to get money out it would not give me any cash.'' Mr. Jones said he tried several times to make a withdrawal on Saturday, Sunday and Monday before returning to the bank on May 5 where he spoke to an employee and explained his problem. "I give her my ID and she makes a call. She's standing there talking on the phone looking at me and she says, `Well, he's definitely standing right here in front of me'.
Bank's grave error over `dead man' "They had frozen my whole account down because they had gotten me mixed up with the other Jason Jones who had died.
"I'm seven years older than him, he was 21, and I live at a different address. I could see if we lived on the same road that there would be some confusion.
"All she could say was `Sorry, we thought you were him'.'' Mr. Jones said he was furious about the bank's lackadaisical attitude toward him despite the fact he had held an account with it for more than 15 years.
"They can't just shut my account down. They should have called me. When I went to speak to the manager, all she could say was `We are really sorry'.
"Sorry? I told her, `If I had made a mistake like that with you guys then you would have had me. You shut me out of my account all weekend and all you can do is say you're sorry?'.
"They didn't check anything out. That is what infuriated me. If they had said they tried to get hold of me but couldn't reach me I would have understood but they didn't even try.
"They just closed my account down. I am more angry with their attitude than anything else.''
