Hume CFO of XL Mid Ocean

has appointed John Hume as chief financial and administrative officer.Mr. Hume was formerly finance director and chief administrative officer of NAC Reinsurance International Ltd., a London-based subsidiary of NAC Re Corp.,

has appointed John Hume as chief financial and administrative officer.

Mr. Hume was formerly finance director and chief administrative officer of NAC Reinsurance International Ltd., a London-based subsidiary of NAC Re Corp., whose merger with XL was completed on June 18.

He replaces XLMO's William Robbie who was recently appointed Corporate Treasurer of XL.

XLMO President and Chief Executive Officer Henry Keeling said: "We are extremely fortunate to have John join the senior management team in Bermuda.

Our aim is to further develop our capabilities as a global multi-line reinsurer and a continuing high standard of accounting and financial expertise is necessary to support us in achieving the strategic objectives we have set ourselves.'' Mr. Hume, who took up his new duties yesterday, will be responsible for the financial affairs of XLMO and NAC Re International and their overseas branches.

He will also join the board of Le Mans Re, the French reinsurance company formed as a joint venture between XLMO and Les Mutuelles du Mans Assurances Group in July this year.

A Fellow of the Chartered Association of Certified Accountants, Mr. Hume began his reinsurance career with The Victory Reinsurance Company Ltd. in 1971 before joining Sorema (UK) Reinsurance Company in 1990. He joined NAC Re International in 1993.

XL Capital Ltd, through its wholly-owned subsidiaries provides insurance and reinsurance coverages and financial products worldwide.

Following the completion of its merger with NAC Re Corp. in June 1999, XL had consolidated assets of approximately $14.1 billion and consolidated shareholders' equity of $5.6 billion.
